Using laboratory research and real-life demonstrations, the project will inform professionals and decision-makers, who will be convened at regular intervals. In addition to delivering the hydropower flexibility matrix and the Smart Power Plant Supervisor (SPPS), the project will also demonstrate hydroelectric technologies covering: pumped storage, reservoir storage and run-of-river hydropower projects.

A key outcome will be a technical whitepaper, setting out a step-by-step methodology for adapting hydropower assets for flexible power operations. This technical guidance will be published based on results and lessons learned implementing the SPPS at the demonstrator sites.

A roadmap will also be prepared illustrating the main options and recommended actions for the sector.

KEY TASKS

• Definition of a common framework for the demos and exchange platform
• Monitoring of the implementation of the demos, including Key Performance Indicators (Plant KPIs)
• Consolidation of best practices and roadmap
